Jaguars finalize trade of receiver Northcutt to Lions

The Jaguars agreed to a trade Friday that will send receiver Dennis Northcutt to Detroit for Lions safety Gerald Alexander, according to Jerome Stanley, the agent for both players. The deal, which is contingent on both players passing physicals, won't be official until Monday. Jaguars general manager Gene Smith didn't immediately respond to an e-mail, and coach Jack Del Rio is out of the country and unavailable for comment.

You'd think Mike Peterson never left the Jacksonville Jaguars, judging from the outpouring of support for his Bring It football camp held Thursday at Raines High School. Earlier in the day, former teammates Justin Durant, Clint Ingram, Tony Pashos, Quentin Groves, and Drayton Florence helped Peterson put close to 300 campers through drills in 94-degree heat along with his brother, Adrian Peterson, and new Jaguars tackle Tra Thomas. Jags safety Reggie Nelson and receiver Mike Walker strolled through for the autograph session afterward in the Raines High cafeteria.

High school coach of Jaguars' Meester fatally shot in Iowa

Tragedy struck on the home front again for Jaguars center Brad Meester, who learned Wednesday morning that his former high school coach Ed Thomas, was shot dead. According to reports, a gunman opened fire on Thomas - one of central Iowa's most prominent high school football coaches - in the weight room near Aplington-Parkersburg High School. The shooting occurred at approximately at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, and the gunman, Mark D. Becker, 24, was taken into custody shortly afterward and charged with first-degree murder.
